Hard to pick a favorite when you love both black and white and color. This is one of my favorite images from my trip into the northern area of New Mexico when I was able to photograph Black Mesa during an approaching thunderstorm.

I travel to Utah every year sometimes twice a year. Almost every time I go, I stop by and hike around in the Arches National Park. I have been there 8 times now and I would have to say it is my favorite National Park in America. Most of the time I travel alone but I have taken my wife with me twice and a group of friends with me one year to share the experience I enjoy the most.
To me the Arches along with the Canyonlands National Park is my favorite place on earth. It’s surreal landscape represents what the west is all about.
I remember my first trip here back in 2000. I was so unprepared for what I was about to experience. Both in photo expectations and camping gear. I was here in mid April and was hit with 80 degree weather for the first few days then a sleet storm for my last two days here.

Took off and drove all night to the north west corner of New Mexico Thursday night after work. Took 16 hours to get there. Arrived there around 11:30 am. Since I refuse to shoot during the bad part of the day, I slept in the car and waited there until 5 pm. Then finally sunset was approaching so a hiking I went.
This was my second time there. I had to go back since I didn’t get very many good shots my first trip out nearly 3 years ago. Stayed there shooting til the sun went away, then drove all the way back to Dallas. I didn’t wake back up til noon today. Pretty beat right now still. It’s getting harder for me to do these marathon type trips with very little sleep. All this effort just to shoot at sunset.
